CHRONICLE OF AN ICONIC CHARACTER

Albert Lasker, born May 1, 1880 in Freiburg, Germany, was a renowned entrepreneur and pioneer in the field of advertising and marketing. His career and contributions to the business world made him an influential figure in the industry and an icon of entrepreneurship.

Lasker immigrated to the United States with his family when he was just one year old. He grew up in Galveston, Texas, where his father owned a small grocery store. From a young age, Lasker demonstrated an entrepreneurial spirit and a talent for business. At the age of 15, he began working as a journalist and later became co-owner of an advertising agency in Chicago.

In 1904, Lasker joined the Lord & Thomas advertising company, where he quickly became known for his innovative approach. He pioneered advertising techniques that focused on persuasion and emotion, rather than simply product information. He recognized the power of advertising to influence consumer buying decisions and became an advocate of research-based marketing and consumer psychology.

Lasker partnered with major brands and well-known companies, such as Palmolive, Pepsodent and the American Tobacco Company. His groundbreaking advertising campaigns helped establish these brands in the minds of consumers and increase their sales significantly. He introduced strategies such as using celebrity testimonials, distributing free samples and creating catchy slogans.

In addition to his work in advertising, Lasker also dabbled in philanthropy and politics. He supported social causes and donated generously to charities, especially in the field of medical research. He was also an active supporter of the Democratic Party and played an important role in Woodrow Wilson's presidential campaign in 1912.
